Q&A

Q: What are Medical-Grade, Prescription Orthotics?

Medical-grade orthotics are specialized shoe inserts or insoles designed for an individual’s serious foot problems. They are highly crafted from quality materials and custom-made to fit an individual’s unique foot shape. When made right, they alleviate pain, improve posture, correct foot deformities, and enhance overall foot function. We make our medical-grade orthotics in our lab in Boise, giving us a degree of customization that is unavailable elsewhere.

Our custom orthotics include a 90-day comfort, fit, and performance warranty.

Medical-grade orthotics can treat flat feet, plantar fasciitis, bunions, arthritis, and diabetic foot complications. Orthotics also address various foot conditions or biomechanical issues, providing support, stability, and alignment to the feet and ankles. Prescription Medical-grade orthotics are more effective in addressing foot pain, correcting gait abnormalities, and improving overall foot function. Prescription orthotics include many corrective elements that are not available in mail-order orthotics.

Q: What is a Pedorthist?

A pedorthist is a foot care specialist with extensive training in treating foot or ankle issues via footwear, orthotics, or modification. They are trained to assess and analyze the biomechanics of a person’s feet and lower limbs to determine any abnormalities or conditions requiring specialized footwear or orthotics. A pedorthist also works closely with patients with injuries, diabetes, arthritis, flat feet, bunions, plantar fasciitis, and more.

Q: Why Would You See a Pedorthist?

Why see a pedorthist? Because your feet hurt! Our job is to use orthotics to help manage common foot ailments like plantar fasciitis, neuromas, neuropathies, and bunions.

A pedorthist is crucial in improving foot and lower limb health, enhancing comfort, and preventing future problems by providing personalized solutions tailored to your unique needs and circumstances.

A pedorthist can also assess biomechanical problems and provide custom-made orthotic insoles or shoe modifications to correct these issues and prevent further problems. People with diabetes are at a higher risk of foot complications due to neuropathy and poor circulation. A pedorthist can help individuals with diabetes select suitable footwear and orthotics to prevent ulcers, blisters, and other diabetic-related foot problems. Arthritis in the feet and ankles can lead to pain and reduced mobility. Pedorthists can design orthotic devices and recommend footwear that provides foot support and reduces pressure on affected joints. After a foot or lower limb injury, such as a sprained ankle, stress fracture, or tendonitis, a Pedorthist can assist with rehabilitation by providing supportive footwear or orthotic devices to aid in the healing process and prevent further injuries.
