FAQ:
About Footbeds and Custom Foot Orthotics
10 Most Commonly Asked Questions
Foot Dynamics makes a clear distinction between a medical corrective
foot orthosis and a custom made accommodative insole or footbed. A
corrective (or sometimes referred to as dynamic) orthosis is one that is
designed to significantly alter foot function in an effort to correct chronic and/or pathologic foot abnormalities.
A custom formed footbed is designed to support and/or cushion the foot to improve normal function. It is strongly recommended that persons with persistent foot problems first consult a foot care specialist before attempting to self treat a foot related problem. Medically corrective foot orthoses should be made with a prescription from a certified medical practioner.
Q: What are custom footbeds / orthotics...
A: Custom footbeds and orthotics are custom made inserts that go into your shoes to address many types of foot disorders. They provide support, correction and/or cushion to improve foot performance and comfort.
Q: Will custom footbeds / orthotics benefit me...
A: Properly made foot orthotics can benefit everyone. Think of them like a custom made pair of shoes, while some people require them, anyone can appreciate them.
Q: Are they uncomfortable...
A: Proper footbeds / orthotics are designed to treat foot discomfort, not cause it. At Foot Dynamics we guarantee our inserts to be comfortable. We use the A.C.T. direct molding system that creates a very natural and accurate impression of your foot. Because the footbeds / orthotics may change your foot posture, a break- in period of 1 - 2 weeks is normal.
Q: How long do footbeds / orthotics last...
A: Insert life depends on materials, intensity of use and corrective nature. As a rule of thumb, most Foot Dynamics footbeds / orthotics will last 2 to 3 years before they will need to be refurbished. Footbeds & orthotics for runners will normally out last several pairs of shoes. Top covers may need to be replaced yearly. Our refurbishing service is available for $59 per pair.
Q: Will the inserts fit in all my shoes...
A: Most Foot Dynamics footbeds / orthotics are made full length and will fit in any shoe with a removable (or glued in) sock liner or insole. Dress shoes and other low volume foot wear may require a special Ύ length device. Custom footbeds for use in ski boots and skates are also different.
Q: Will I need to buy larger shoes...
A: If the shoe has a removable sock liner or insert, the footbed / orthotic will replace it and should not require more space. If the inserts are going into dress shoes you may need a little more room. It is best to try shoes on with the footbed / orthotics in them.
Q: How long does it take to get my Foot Dynamics footbed / orthotics...
A: Filling out the evaluation form and making the foot impressions takes about 15 minutes. Turn around time in the lab is generally 2 days and shipping is 2-3 days in each direction. From the initial day of ordering you should allow a total of 2 weeks for delivery of your footbeds / orthotics including shipping time.
Q: Will my health insurance company pay for my orthotics...
A: Some insurance plans will pay for orthotics when prescribed by a physician, but many do not. You should contact you health insurance provider to inquire about reimbursement. Foot Dynamics will provide the necessary documentation (L code) but we do cannot submit your claim.
Q: What if I dont like the orthotics after I get them...
A: Foot Dynamics guarantees its footbed / orthotics for quality, comfort and effectiveness. If you are not totally satisfied, you may return them for a full refund (excluding shipping) within 90 days. Repairs will be made at no charge for one year.
